Calypso Communications' Sustainable Wall Mural Celebrates Grappone History
Portsmouth PR, Marketing, and Creative Firm Combines Innovative Design with Sustainability
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Dec. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Calypso Communications, one of the only truly integrated, full-service public relations, marketing, and graphic design firms in Northern New England, recently partnered with two other N.H.-based companies that share a focus on sustainability to design a visually stunning wall mural depicting the history of Grappone Auto Group, a family-owned group of auto dealerships, in its Bow, N.H., Toyota headquarters.
Calypso met the challenge of capturing the milestones in Grappone's almost 90-year history and portraying the dealerships' continued growth in a visually arresting way. Mural creation began with design concepts. To complement Grappone's intent to honor its history and progress, designers used old paper textures, historical color treatments, and minimal pops of color.
"We love finding compelling ways to tell a client's story visually," said Calypso Vice President and Creative Director Mike Teixeira. "Grappone has a cherished photo collection of family members and automobiles spanning the 20th century that we were able to incorporate. It's exciting to evoke the family's accomplishments with these elements."
With the first LEED-certified Toyota dealership in New England, Grappone also hoped to incorporate mural materials that embrace its commitment to sustainability. Calypso connected the dealership with client Monadnock Paper Mills, a N.H.-based, family-owned mill known for innovative products and practices. Monadnock recently launched the Envi Portfolio, a line of sustainable, fiber-based packaging and decorative products. The line includes a product suitable for large-format printing and wall mounting in retail environments.
Image 4, a large-format printer also based in N.H., managed the mural printing and installation process using sustainable printing equipment and techniques. The 3- by 56-foot mural required rounds of print testing, paper applications, and installation tests.
"We are so pleased that Calypso was able to connect us with other N.H. businesses to bring this beautiful timeline and project to life," said Amanda Osmer Grappone, fourth-generation owner of the Grappone Automotive Group. "Monadnock provided the perfect paper for this historical project in our new LEED-certified Toyota dealership, and Image4 completed the installation superbly."
Calypso's work is already getting noticed. Wide-Format Imaging, a trade magazine for the wide-format printing industry, featured the mural and the companies' shared values of sustainability on the cover of its November 2012 issue. Calypso has shared a video of the installation process here.
