Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Western Regional Medical Center Receives Accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
The hospital's commitment to high-quality care and multidisciplinary treatment establishes it as the only nationally accredited breast center in the state of Arizona.
GOODYEAR, Arizona- Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Western Regional Medical Center has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers® (NAPBC), a program overseen by the American College of Surgeons. This accreditation is only given to premier treatment centers that exemplify high-quality care and a demonstrated commitment to providing evidence-based, multidisciplinary breast care to patients.
NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. NAPBC's evaluation process is nothing less than rigorous, requiring proof of an established commitment to high-quality and multidisciplinary care to patients, evaluation on 28 different NAPBC standards and a comprehensive review of overall clinical performance and quality-of-care benchmarks. Dean Nora, MD, FACS, the NAPBC surveyor who evaluated Western's comprehensive breast program in March of this year, recognized Western's compliance with all 28 NAPBC standards during his evaluation of the CTCA patient-centered care model used at Western.
"Our hospital is committed to continuously providing excellent care to our patients," CEO and president of CTCA® at Western, Edgar Staren, MD, PhD, MBA, noted. "This accreditation is truly an honor and will motivate us to continue advancing our holistic, patient-centered approach to breast cancer treatment."CTCA at Western understands that mammograms are a sensitive and emotional experience, and therefore tests are conducted with the privacy and comfort of patients as a top priority. The Mammography Suite offers the latest breast imaging equipment, such as side-by-side monitors that allow doctors to compare previous mammograms while simultaneously capturing images during a real-time breast exam.
During the NAPBC site survey, Western was recognized for offering innovative, advanced technologies and therapies to provide state-of-the-art multidisciplinary care for both breast cancer and benign breast diseases. These technologies and therapies include cutting-edge surgeries, chemotherapies, and radiation therapies. Every patient's situation is unique, so each patient is assessed using state-of-the-art tools and methods to find the best personalized, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary treatment for their breast cancer. As with all CTCA centers, breast cancer treatment at Western also includes integrative medicine and support therapies that can help patients to manage the side effects of cancer treatment, boost energy, and maintain a healthy nutritional status.
"Each treatment plan is designed specifically for each individual patient and her cancer," said Surgical Oncologist Robert A. Wascher, MD, FACS, who is the director of Western's breast cancer program, as well as the chief of Western's department of surgery. "An ever increasing number of innovative new breast cancer therapies allow us to create personalized treatment plans, and to better manage the side effects of treatment, which allows our patients to remain active and retain a good quality of life while undergoing treatment."
This accreditation demonstrates CTCA at Western's dedication to truly patient-centered care, and Western's commitment to the Mother Standard® of care model upon which CTCA was built. These standards of care ensure that every patient is treated with respect and compassion throughout their cancer journey, and as part of their integrated, whole-person care at CTCA.
