Capital Insurance Group Sponsors High School Athletes On Road to the 2013 US Open
CIG Supports Young Competitors to 'Dream Big'
MONTEREY, Calif., June 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Capital Insurance Group® (CIG), the leading regional property and casualty insurer serving the Western U.S., announced it will be sponsoring four high school athletes as they compete for a wild card entry in the 2013 U.S. Open National Playoffs in August. The CIG-sponsored participants, Hadley Berg, Mary Closs, David Hsu, and William Griffin, are top competitors from Northern California and compete in 18-year-old age group. They will begin the tiered competition in sectional qualifying tournaments through July 4th with winners moving on to progressive tournaments.

The talented CIG-sponsored competitors have participated in many previous tournaments earning prime rankings in regional and national standings;
- Hadley Berg, competing in Girls 18s, from Greenbrae, CA, is ranked #2 in NorCal Girl's 18 and nationally ranked 65th.
- Mary Closs, competing in Girls 18s, from Menlo Park, CA, is ranked #21 in NorCal Girl's 18 and nationally ranked 32nd.
- David Hsu, competing in Boys 18s, from San Jose, CA, is ranked 7th in NorCal Boy's 18 and nationally ranked 4th.
- William Griffin, competing in Boys 18s, from Fresno, CA, is ranked 2nd in NorCal Boy's 18 and nationally ranked 27th.
Hundreds of young athletes, through a "lottery selection process," will compete in a series of tournaments that gives players 14 years of age and older the opportunity to qualify for the 2013 U.S. Open National Playoffs. Winning athletes in men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles will advance through division tournaments culminating in a wild card entry to compete in the 2013 U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament and the 2013 U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship respectively.
