CareScreen® platform to help Connecticut's only statewide independent physician association to improve care, reduce costs
SUFFIELD, Conn., Feb. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The CareScreen health data-sharing software platform will help the 4,000 physicians of the Connecticut State Medical Society-Independent Practice Association (CSMS-IPA) in its drive to improve care and reduce costs under a five-year agreement with Quality Health Ideas.
Connecticut's only statewide independent physician association, or IPA, selected the Suffield-based company's technology, which has helped plans earn an average of 4.5 stars out of five for quality as determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In addition, the CareScreen platform has helped to reduce total medical expenses for Medicare Advantage plans between 20 to 25 percent, or about twice the average of competing products.
IPAs are organized by private practice physicians to negotiate contracts with insurance companies, which are increasingly paying a set amount for each enrolled person assigned to them rather than fees for services.
"We are very excited to be working with QHI and to integrate the CareScreen platform into our member practices," said David D. Thompson Jr., president of the CSMS-IPA and an internist in Niantic. "Using the platform's real-time data will allow our physicians to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of the care they provide to their patients resulting in substantial revenue for their efforts."
The CareScreen platform meets the needs for a wide range of health care plans.
"QHI will eventually support all of the CSMS-IPA's beneficiaries, including Medicare ACO and Medicare Advantage plans as well as commercial members across all payers in Connecticut," said Ben Kraus, QHI's president. "Physicians will have the opportunity to increase value-based care revenue, reduce total medical expenses and improve care coordination."
Designed by physicians for physicians, the CareScreen platform now supports the needs of 10,000 doctors in 10 states.
"Our knowledge of the local landscape will support a timely rollout," said Phil Gaziano, primary care physician and QHI founder. "The trust and confidence placed in us here in our home state is especially gratifying."
