Carrier IP Telephony Market Poised to Post Revenue Growth in 2014 after Five Years of Declines, According to Dell'Oro Group Strong Growth in IP Multimedia Subsystem Core, Session Border Controller Expected

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, announced today that Carrier IP Telephony market revenues declined four percent overall versus the year-ago period.  Sales of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Core, Session Border Controller (SBC) and Voice Application Server (VAS) systems grew 41 percent, almost offsetting declines in mature Softswitch (SS) and Media Gateway (MG) segments.

"We see significant expansion of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in North America in 2014, after the initial 2013 launches in Korea and Japan.  The implementation of these services has already driven hundreds of millions of dollars of capital spending," said Chris DePuy, Vice President of Carrier IP Telephony research at Dell'Oro Group.  "We expect other regions, including Western Europe and China to be drivers to similar capital spending in the next year."

The overall Carrier IP Telephony market, which includes devices used to serve both circuit switched subscribers, Voice over IP (VoIP) and Voice over LTE subscribers, topped $1.8 billion in the fourth quarter 2013.
