DENVER, Dec. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PwC US today announced that Cary Spain has joined the firm as a partner in the Risk Assurance Services practice, focused on internal audit, governance, risk and compliance and enterprise risk management for the healthcare industry. Based in Denver, Spain will lead risk assurance teams focused on healthcare in the Rockies and San Francisco. Prior to joining PwC, she was a Vice President at CHAN Healthcare Auditors serving numerous hospital systems in internal audit, risk management and consulting capacities. The addition of Spain represents the practice's continued growth across all industry sectors to better assist with clients' specific risk assessment needs.

With the addition of 500 new hires in the past year, PwC's Risk Assurance Services practice now numbers more than 1,900 professionals who provide companies with significant technical expertise as well as deep industry knowledge across all industries. Skilled team members assist companies in developing risk and compliance programs, performing audits and creating internal controls processes around business performance issues, IT systems as well as strategy and contingency planning.
Spain previously served as an Advisory Services Partner at Ernst & Young where she was responsible for growing the Internal Audit practice in Denver, in addition to assisting clients in implementing risk based internal audit plans and improving policies and procedures. She now returns to PwC after serving as a business assurance practice manager for the firm for eight years where she identified areas of risk in client financial and operational areas and created specific procedures to address those risks.
Spain received her B.A. in Communication Arts from the University of Cincinnati and a M.S. from the University of Colorado. She is an active member of the Make-A-Wish Colorado Foundation as a board member and chair of the finance committee, as well as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Healthcare Financial Management Association.
