COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the world's authority for chemical information, announced today that it has signed an agreement with the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) for unlimited access to SciFinder.  CAUL comprises 39 academic institutions in Australia, including the University of Melbourne, Australian National University and the University of Sydney.

SciFinder is the proprietary search and analysis tool for CAS databases, the largest, most complete collection of disclosed chemistry and related scientific research, including more than 67 million chemical substances and 56 million reactions from patents, journals, web publications, and other reputable sources.

"This is an excellent agreement which builds on a strong relationship developed over 13 years," said Andrew Wells, Convenor of CAUL's Electronic Information Resources Advisory Committee.  "I am particularly pleased to see a new access model enabling university libraries of all sizes to benefit from unlimited use of this premier scientific resource. The agreement has been very positively received across the spectrum of our member organizations."

SciFinder is the preferred source of chemical information for scientists around the globe. With unlimited access, SciFinder is available to researchers in chemistry departments, as well as those in other science departments throughout a university, including biochemistry, biology and related biosciences, pharmacy and pharmacology, forensics, physics, medical and dental, biomedical engineering and material science.

"CAS is proud to support the important research efforts of respected academic institutions, like the members of CAUL, with access to the best chemical information available," said Chris McCue, vice president of marketing at CAS. "CAUL joins consortia in the U.K., U.S., and other countries in ensuring that their researchers have the world's best chemical research tool at their command."
