Casa Systems Unveils Virtual CCAP for Distributed Access at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo

ANDOVER, Mass., Sept. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Casa Systems, a worldwide leader in next-generation fixed, wireless and Wi-Fi access networks, today announced its new multi-service virtualized core for the next generation of services that enables CCAP, 4G/5G cellular, Wi-Fi and fixed telecommunications network functions. In addition, Casa is paving the way for the next generation of intelligent service delivery that enable service providers to monetize distributed content delivery and media processing at the edge. Casa will debut a Virtual CCAP (vCCAP) demonstration over a distributed access node at SCTE/ISBE Cable-Tec Expo^®, taking place September 26-29 in Philadelphia.

As the first supplier of commercially deployed CCAP systems that deliver voice, video, and data over a single port, Casa's Virtual CCAP continues a tradition of bringing leading edge solutions to cable service providers. Leveraging Casa's Axyom software architecture, vCCAP joins Casa's suite of Wi-Fi and 4G /5G mobile products currently in the market today. The Axyom architecture provides a common security framework that allows independent scaling of control and data plane functions. Designed to meet the multi-dimensional scaling and high performance needs that future solutions will require, Axyom is comprised of modular components that move Casa beyond NFV 1.0 or "lift and shift" solutions that port existing services to COTS hardware. 

Casa's vCCAP product will include virtual MAC layer data processing, control and management functions. Casa's family of distributed access nodes for PHY layer processing in cable networks are supported by both the new vCCAP product and Casa's award winning chassis-based CCAPs (C100G / C40G). Casa's DAA solutions deliver full DOCSIS 3.1 features, including full spectrum OFDM, giving service providers the ability to offer gigabit+ data services, as well as narrowcast and broadcast video in a distributed access architecture. 

Launched in 2015, Casa's Axyom mobile and Wi-Fi portfolios boast industry-leading performance and density per rack and continue to grow and gain market traction among service providers who want more agile alternatives for managing Wi-Fi and LTE traffic.

• CCAP Video-on-Demand over Distributed Access Architecture: Casa Systems is the first CCAP provider to show fully integrated CCAP functions over DAA, including live video processed at the network edge. Casa's demonstration shows that service providers can bring video processing to a DAA environment today and realize even greater efficiencies with the ability to move video closer to the consumer.
• DOCSIS^® 3.1 upstream and downstream speeds: This year, Casa was one of the first CCAP providers to demonstrate DOCSIS 3.1 upstream speeds of more than 400 Mbps. At Cable-Tec Expo, Casa will demonstrate 600 Mbps on its C100G CCAP, its fastest upstream speeds to date.
• Axyom LTE-based Wi-Fi calling: Casa Systems will demonstrate an EPC based solution for Wi-Fi calling to enhance indoor coverage. The solution consists of Casa's Axyom ePDG and P-GW virtual components. An LTE provided voice-over-IP solution enables seamless mobility spanning multiple access networks.
• Axyom Wi-Fi portfolio: Casa Systems helps service providers offer more Wi-Fi services, more securely, at a lower cost. At Cable-Tec Expo, Casa will feature the Axyom Wireless Access Gateway (WAG) showcasing its best-in-class high-speed performance, an optimized Wi-Fi in MDU simulation and Wi-Fi Video calling demonstration.
