Caterpillar Announces David L. Calhoun and Dennis A. Muilenburg Elected to Its Board of Directors
PEORIA, Ill., June 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) announced today that David L. Calhoun and Dennis A. Muilenburg have been elected to its Board of Directors.
David L. Calhoun: Calhoun, 54, currently is Chief Executive Officer of Nielsen. Prior to joining Nielsen in August 2006, Calhoun served as Vice Chairman of General Electric Company ("GE") and President and Chief Executive Officer of GE Infrastructure.
"Dave's expertise gained from his Nielsen role will add a fresh perspective to our Board," said Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman. "He also brings significant manufacturing and high-technology industry expertise as evidenced by his former leadership of GE's aircraft engines and transportation businesses," Oberhelman added.
Outside of Nielsen, Calhoun serves on the Board of the Boeing Company and on the Board of Medtronic, Inc. Calhoun graduated from Virginia Tech in 1979. After joining GE, he completed the GE Financial Management Program. In 1981, Calhoun joined the GE Corporate Audit Staff and held positions of increasing responsibility over the next two decades.
Dennis A. Muilenburg: Dennis A. Muilenburg, has been Executive Vice President of The Boeing Company and President and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Defense, Space & Security since September 2009. Muilenburg joined Boeing in 1985 and, since that time, he has held a series of key positions with increasing responsibilities with Boeing.
"Dennis' experience with large-scale product development programs and supply chain logistics is certainly welcomed given our plans to add manufacturing capacity around the world," Oberhelman said.
Muilenburg serves on Boeing's Executive Council. He also serves on the Association of the United States Army ("AUSA") Council of Trustees and the Washington University Board of Trustees, and he is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Muilenburg holds a Bachelor's Degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University, and received a Master's Degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the University of Washington.
