WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Oct. 31, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Community Education Centers, Inc. (CEC) is proud to announce the newest addition to its In-Prison Treatment Services division awarded from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The new program "Men's In-Prison Rehabilitative Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (CBT) Program" will begin on or before January 1st at the Kern Valley State Prison in Delano, California. This new program increases the CEC roster of in-prison treatment programming locations for the State to six, in addition to a reentry center and Referral/Placement Office for Los Angeles County.
"We are honored by the trust the State of California has placed in us to provide CEC's evidence-based model of treatment at CDCR facilities," said James E. Hyman, CEO. "We are proud to be in partnership with the State to reduce recidivism by administering treatment programming."
As of 2016, CEC is celebrating fifteen years of being a treatment provider to the State of California. Contracting began between the two parties in 2001, and their association began earlier when company representatives were invited to train staff and help launch two pilot programs. The programming was well received and the treatment model was put into effect at additional CDCR facilities. Since that time, CEC has continuously delivered evidence-based rehabilitation services to California's criminal justice population, both through in-prison treatment and community-based treatment programs.
The new program award allows CEC to provide evidence-based CBT programming to inmates at the Kern Valley State Prison with a moderate to high risk to re-offend and an assessed criminogenic need, as identified by the Correctional Offender Management Profiling for Alternative Sanctions (COMPAS) and other assessments identified by CDCR. It is CDCR's goal to address offenders' criminogenic needs prior to release and to facilitate a successful transition back to their communities in order to reduce their likelihood of re-offending. The CEC CBT program shall address substance use disorder, criminal thinking, anger management, and family relationships.
CEC is a leading national provider of rehabilitative services for offenders in reentry and in-prison treatment facilities, as well as providing comprehensive management of county, state, and federal jail and detention facilities. The Company provides evidence-based programming for residential and non-residential clients and maintains a documented record of reducing recidivism.
