Centinela Hospital Ranked as One of the Top 25 Hospitals in the Nation With the Highest Value-Based Purchasing Scores by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
INGLEWOOD, Calif., Jan. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Centinela Hospital Medical Center, an affiliate of Prime Healthcare Services, is proud to announce that it was ranked among the top 25 hospitals in the nation by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) Hospital Value-Based Purchasing program. It is one of only two California hospitals ranked among the top 25. A hospital's individual score within the Value-Based Purchasing program for fiscal year 2014 was focused on three main areas: Clinical process of care, patient experience and outcomes.
"This CMS ranking shows Centinela Hospital Medical Center's commitment to the highest quality of care," said Linda Bradley, the hospital's CEO. "I congratulate the physicians, nurses and other employees for their dedication."
Congress authorized inpatient value-based purchasing as part of the Affordable Care Act, in an effort to link Medicare's payment system to improve healthcare quality.
"Centinela Hospital Medical Center is an excellent example of how our evidence-based standards and proven clinical protocols produce top quality healthcare," said Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services, which owns and operates CHMC among 25 acute care hospitals nationwide.
The program will implement value-based purchasing to the payment system that accounts for the largest share of Medicare spending, affecting payment for inpatient stays in over 3,500 hospitals across the country. Hospitals will be paid for inpatient acute care services based on the quality of care, not just quantity of the services they provide.
"This ranking by CMS continues to recognize our hospital for high quality of care. Centinela has already been recognized as one of the "100 Top Hospitals" in the nation," said Paryus Patel, MD, Chief Medical Officer of CHMC & Prime Healthcare. "Our primary goal is to deliver & achieve the best clinical outcomes for our patients in the most cost-effective manner."
