Born and raised in Robbins and graduating from Richards High School in Oak Lawn (2000), Wade continues to have a very strong connection to his roots and remains committed to providing inspiration and motivation to local children.
In June, Wade hosted his 6th Annual Dwyane Wade Basketball Camp for nearly 700 kids from the Chicago and Robbins area at Eisenhower High School in Blue Island. Participating kids were treated to two days of basketball instruction by Wade, as well as with local high school and college coaches and special invited guests.
The mission of Wade's World Foundation is to help inspire and provide support to community-based organizations that promote education, health and social skills for kids in at-risk situations so they have the necessary tools they need to leave a positive footprint within their community and succeed in their life experiences. Since the foundation launched in 2003, Wade and his family have been committed to giving back in Chicago, South Florida and throughout the country. Additional programs supported by Wade's World include The Summer Groove with Alonzo Mourning, Wade's Annual Christmas Party for South Florida youth, spending time at Miami's Children Hospital, fulfilling Make-A-Wish Foundation wishes, providing back-to-school supplies for students and spending time with children and families in need.
