"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I'd like to warmly welcome Martine as the new President and CEO of Children's Institute, Inc.," said Board Chairman Charles P. Diamond. "We are thrilled with Martine's decision to join us. She is among the most respected nonprofit executives in California, and her proven dedication to providing the highest-quality services to undeserved children and families makes her a fitting successor to Mary Emmons, whose wise and bold stewardship for over three decades provides Martine with a solid foundation for the future."
CII's programs engage families in multiple, trauma-informed services designed to promote recovery, resilience and readiness. The organization provides clinical services to address children's mental health needs, early childhood programs, parent support services, and youth development activities designed to build skills and self-esteem. As President and CEO of Children's Institute, Inc., Martine will oversee an annual operating budget of $66 million and a staff of more than 800, stationed across CII's three main campuses, four community centers and 28 Early Childhood centers throughout Los Angeles. She will also guide the organization's $75 million Building on Success campaign to expand services throughout Los Angeles and build a new CII Campus— designed pro-bono by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry—in the historic community of Watts.
"I'm honored to join CII, a beacon of hope and recovery for families and a leader in trauma-sensitive care," said Martine. "I'm so excited to work alongside the staff, board and families of CII to build a brighter future for children who've experienced violence, poverty and scarcity."
Prior to joining Para Los Niños, Martine served for six years as Executive Director of Hollygrove, an LA nonprofit with a 135-year history of helping at-risk children and their families. She has also held executive positions in several global media companies, including both The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times, and founded her own consulting firm serving media clients as well as nonprofit organizations.
Martine is a board member of the Eisner Pediatric and Family Medical Center, Wise Freedom School Partners and Making Poverty History, and serves as a Senior Fellow at the USC Marshall School of Business Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab. A native New Yorker, Martine holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
