China Hydroelectric Corporation Receives Request for Extraordinary Shareholder Meeting

NEW YORK, Aug. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- China Hydroelectric Corporation (NYSE: CHC, CHCWS) ("China Hydroelectric" or "the Company"), an owner, developer and operator of small hydroelectric power projects in the People's Republic of China, today announced that on August 21, 2012, the Company's board of directors (the "Board")  received a letter from certain shareholders of the Company (the "Shareholder Group").  In the letter, the Shareholder Group requested, among other things, that the Board call for an extraordinary shareholder meeting for the removal of certain existing directors and the election of new directors nominated by the Shareholder Group.  The Board is currently evaluating the letter and plans to respond to the Shareholder Group in due course.
