China's HNA Group Bolster Logistics Arm with $6 Billion Ingram Micro Acquisition - Research and Markets
DUBLIN, February 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
The logistics market in the APAC region is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.52% over the period 2015-2019, according to a report published on Research and Markets. However, the report highlights the limited use of IT systems as a major challenge that is leading to a lack of compatibility between the IT systems of the shipper and logistics provider. This may change with today's news that Chinese conglomerate HNA Group has acquired US technology distributor Ingram Micro in a deal worth $6 billion.

Ingram Micro is one of the world's largest distributors of consumer electronics and other technology products including computers, printers, scanners, software and more. It launched as a third-party logistics unit in 2000 and is used by many tech companies to run their supply chains.
According to a report on the Global Logistics Market report, one of the main drivers in the market is the logistics cost reduction achieved by utilizing third-party logistics services. Companies outsource some or all of their supply chain management functions such as transportation, warehousing, location tracking and integration operation services. This report forecasts the global logistics market to grow at a rate of 8.44% between 2015 and 2019.
In recent years, Ingram Micro has branched out from its traditional distribution business into areas like automatic identification and data capture. Ingram cover all areas of mobile data capture, from barcode scanners to mobile terminals. There is considerable growth in this market, with a recent report on the global automatic data capture market predicting growth at a rate of 5.59% over the period 2015-2019.
This is the latest example in a growing trend of Chinese companies looking abroad for investment opportunities. According to reports, the total value of Chinese outbound acquisitions topped $1 trillion for the first time last year.
