China's Modern Sky Festival NYC A Success, Marks Continued Expansion Of Chinese Music Company Overseas
In Its 3rd Year, Festival Has Featured Mainland China's Biggest Independent Artists Alongside Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, Cat Power, Gang Of Four, Liars, And More
Modern Sky's U.S. Label And Management Company Officially Launched, With Eye Towards Increased U.S. and China Arts Collaboration
NEW YORK, Dec. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Following two hugely successful U.S. versions of China's The Modern Sky Festival—as well as nearly twenty years of explosive growth at home—China's seminal music fest continued to evolve in 2016, bringing a wide array of Chinese and U.S. artists to New York's Governor's Island on September 17th. The day featured great music, food, and fun and featured top independent Chinese artists Ma Di, Su Yang, Yaksa, DJ Wordy and upcoming U.S. artists Navy Gangs, The Mystery Lights, Breanna Barbara, and more.
Additional 2016 expansion included the launch of Modern Sky's U.S.-based record label and management company. Modern Sky Records signed its first three acts, Calvin Love, Cotillon, and Navy Gangs. On the management side, the company represents The Mystery Lights (Daptone/Wick), The Molochs (Innovative Leisure), Cotillon (Modern Sky/Burger), Calvin Love (Modern Sky/Arts & Crafts), Navy Gangs (Modern Sky), and Re-TROS (Modern Sky).
The Modern Sky Festival NYC is part of the "Across the Pacific - China and U.S. Cultural Exchange & Cooperation Project" funded by the Chinese Ministry of Culture.
The Chinese Ministry of Culture supports cultural programs, including cultural dialogue, performing and visual art exchange, and collaboration on art production. The Ministry sponsors art groups from China to participate in festivals and other events in the United States that help increase awareness of contemporary Chinese culture, especially among young people.
