Chinatown Welcomes Year of the Rooster With Midnight Temple Ceremony
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The LA Chinatown BID invites you to join the Chinatown community to welcome good health, prosperity, and harmony for the "Year of the Rooster." Thousands will gather at Chinatown's largest and most spectacular temple to offer blessings to the deities, set off hundreds of firecrackers to awaken the spirits, and burn incense to usher in good fortune for the New Year*
Who: Lion dancers, the 2017 Miss Chinatown Queen and Court, monks, local dignitaries, the heads of Chinatown family associations, and many others from the Chinese community.
Why: This tradition takes place on the eve of Chinese New Year (1/28) and is typically followed by several days of return visits to the temple for blessings. (118th Annual Golden Dragon Parade and CNY Festival is Saturday 2/4/17 in Chinatown)**
