Chinese Trekkers Assemble in NetDragon's 'Enterprise' to Celebrate the Star Trek 50th Anniversary
FUZHOU, China, Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Topics are heating up with the release of Star Trek Beyond in China. NetDragon's 'Enterprise' office complex, the first exclusively authorized Star Trek building on the planet, attracted attention of global media and trekkers once again. On September 3, more than 100 trekkers from all over the country gathered at NetDragon's headquarters for an unusual space voyage.
Trekkers flocked into NetDragon's headquarters by bus, and they eagerly looked through the window to find the legendary "Enterprise".
Even though trekkers had been prepared for the sight, they were still amazed to see the 'Enterprise' in the real world. "Wow, just like I'm in the film," gasped the trekkers, "and starship Enterprise is behind me!"
"It's so cool! I wish I can work here!" exclaimed 'Eidolon' and "North Jade". They flew from Beijing to see this building. 'Eidolon' told us that, before this trip, they had attended many fandom events, and had also taken photos with Pine and Simon, but they still admired 'Captain Liu' as the world's biggest fan of Star Trek.
Liu Dejian, the Chairman of NetDragon, also known as 'Captain Liu' and a self-descried 'Uber Trekkie', had purchased the UUS Enterprise copyright from CBS several years ago, and built his headquarters modeled on the 'Enterprise' in Fuzhou, a coastal city in China. The construction of 'Enterprise', measuring 260 meters long and 100 meters wide, began in 2008 and was finished in 2014. Because of its otherworldly shape, NetDragon's 'Enterprise' had made international headlines.
The trekkers also watched highlights from Star Trek TV series. Mr. Chen from Wuhan said, "This opportunity may come only once in a lifetime to watch Star Trek in the real-life Enterprise."
NetDragon's open day also provided a unique opportunity for trekkers across the country that regularly communicated through online fan clubs to meet together and share experience. They pointed out that Star Trek were attracted more Chinese fans by its grand worldview and profound humanistic themes that reflected real-life struggles and hard core sci-fi, while the huge fan base in China had also grown into a major international force.
Trekkers were also introduced to China's largest VR Experience Center located in the campus. NetDragon's open day for trekkers as a tribute to the classic proved to be extremely successful. While departing, the trekkers simultaneously made the Vulcan hand salute, and said, "Live long and prosper."
