To arrive at this ranking, Christian Universities Online began with a list of schools that are members or member eligible of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). We then collected publicly available data for these schools in the following categories: 1) faculty-to-student ratio; 2) percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid; 3) selectivity; 4) overall retention rate; and 5) overall graduation rate. Each category received equal weight in calculating the final ranking.
Anna-Rebekah Orr, the associate editor for the ranking, states that the goal of the ranking is to highlight schools that excel in their educational offerings and the overall value of the education they provide. Orr says, "These are southern schools that seek to provide students with a top-notch education on multiple levels, ranging from overall academic quality and resources to financial assistance. These are schools that not only take higher education seriously but work with students, faculty, and administration to assemble a complete educational package. Their high standards mean that graduates fare better in future careers, thus advancing the reputation of the school and creating a self-perpetuating cycle of quality and strong reputation." She adds, "For this ranking, Christian Universities Online sought to give equal weight to as many practical elements as possible. A school's reputation is made up of multiple components. By taking into account a broad range of qualities, we were able to identify which of these southern institutions are truly on top of their game for overall quality, value, and academic offerings."
