Christian Universities Online Publishes Ranking of Top Christian Colleges and Universities in Pennsylvania 2017
DURHAM, N.C., March 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading Christian higher education resource, Christian Universities Online (http://www.christianuniversitiesonline.org/), has published a ranking of Top Christian Colleges and Universities in Pennsylvania 2017.
This ranking gave consideration to all schools in Pennsylvania that are members of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) or member eligible. Publicly available data was then collected in the following five categories: 1) faculty-to-student ratio; 2) percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid; 3) selectivity, 4) overall retention rate; and 5) overall graduation rate. The score of each category was then standardized and weighted. The weighted scores were combined in order to compute an overall score.
Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, claimed the top spot on the list. The ranking can be viewed at http://www.christianuniversitiesonline.org/top-christian-colleges-and-universities-in-pennsylvania-2017/.
The complete list of schools, listed in alphabetical order, is as follows:
Eastern University - Saint Davids, Pennsylvania
Geneva College - Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania
Grove City College - Grove City, Pennsylvania
Waynesburg University - Waynesburg, Pennsylvania
Gary Orr, editor at Christian Universities Online, states that the goal of this ranking is to highlight Christian schools specifically in the state of Pennsylvania that excel in their educational offerings. Orr says, "Christian Universities Online created a ranking for students who are interested in finding a Christian college or university in Pennsylvania, a state that makes for a rich context in which to attend college--whether as a backdrop for study, extracurricular exploration, or simply recreation."
Because Pennsylvania has been the site of important moments in American history--including, for example, the historic district of Philadelphia with its Independence Hall, Valley Forge, and Gettysburg--the state is sometimes called the "cradle of American liberty." It has also been home to important figures in history such as Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross. Adding to its historical pedigree is the the important role Pennsylvania has played in the steel and oil industries. The Pennsylvania Dutch (Amish) and Wesleyan communities add a multi-cultural interest to the state. Pennsylvania's urban centers are culturally rich, but it also offers rural, mountainous, and waterfront locales for outdoor activities like camping, hiking, fishing, snow skiing, and boating. Lastly, Pennsylvania enjoys close proximity to the east coast, making the popular New Jersey and Delaware coastlines accessible destinations, while on the western side of the state, Erie is a Great Lake town well worth exploring. With all of this to in mind, Christian Universities Online-- a website which offers many region-specific rankings as part of its overall repertoire-- thought it appropriate to create a ranking devoted specifically to Pennsylvania and the prospective students who would be drawn there.
