Christian Universities Online Releases Ranking of Top 10 Christian Colleges and Universities in California 2017
DURHAM, N.C., Nov. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading Christian higher education resource, Christian Universities Online (http://www.christianuniversitiesonline.org/), has published a ranking of Top 10 Christian Colleges and Universities in California 2017. (http://www.christianuniversitiesonline.org/top-10-christian-colleges-and-universities-in-california-2017/)
The methodology for this ranking began by considering schools in the state of California that were members of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) or member eligible. The following five data points were then collected from publicly available sources: 1) faculty-to-student ratio; 2) percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid; 3) selectivity; 4) overall retention rate; and 5) overall graduation rate. We then standardized the data, assigned weights to each category and computed an overall score.
Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, claimed the top spot on the list. Westmont College of Santa Barbara, California, and Hope International University of Fullerton, California, ranked second and third, respectively.
Other schools making the list include (in alphabetical order):
Azusa Pacific University - Azusa, California
Biola University - La Mirada, California
Concordia University Irvine - Irvine, California
Fresno Pacific University - Fresno, California
Simpson University - Redding, California
The Master's University (formerly known as The Master's College and Seminary) - Santa Clarita, California
Vanguard University - Costa Mesa, California
Christian Universities Online created this ranking knowing that for many students geography plays a key role in the college search process. Because of its large size, its strong geographical appeal, and the number of schools that call the state home, California merits its own ranking.
Although this ranking mirrors Christian Universities Online's top fifty schools nationwide, the geographical parameters of a state-specific list allows for a more succinct, interest-based resource. Anna-Rebekah Orr, site editor, says, "While geography is not the highest priority for all emerging college students, it can play a key role for many. California's interesting cities, beautiful landscapes, and range of temperate climates have long made it a destination state. West Coast natives, on the other hand, may be looking for a school close to home. Proximity to home (which affects travel costs), availability of post-graduate opportunities locally, and familiarity with the region are all factors that many students seriously consider. Cost of living, climate, and culture also wield some influence in the college selection process. This ranking will be helpful as it highlights intentionally Christian schools in California that are known for personal attention to their students, selectivity, readily available financial aid, and overall student satisfaction. We think it will be very useful to students looking for a Christian school in the midwest."
