Chrysler Group Earns a Perfect Score for its LGBT Workplace Policies and Benefits
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
- Company is one of 252 leading employers to achieve a perfect score in the 2013 Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Annual Corporate Equality Index
- Index rates major employers based on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace policies and benefits, defining the best-in-class practices for LGBT inclusion in the workplace
- Chrysler Group has achieved a perfect score seven times since the index was established in 2002
According to a report released by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), Chrysler Group was one of 252 leading employers to achieve a perfect score of 100 percent on HRC's 2013 Corporate Equality Index (CEI).
The CEI rates employers annually based on their LGBT workplace policies and benefits and reflects equal health care coverage for all LGBT employees and their families. A perfect score indicates a company provides full parity for domestic partner benefits, not only in basic medical coverage, but in dependent care, retirement and other benefits that affect families' financial and medical well-being. Chrysler Group's 100 percent rating also signifies coverage for transgender individuals for medically necessary care — a community the HRC notes has historically been overlooked.
The HRC is the educational arm of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, America's largest civil rights organization, and is dedicated to achieving LGBT equality. The HRC rated 889 employers for the 2013 report, including the entire Fortune 500. The top rated businesses span nearly every industry and major geography of the U.S. This was the seventh time Chrysler Group has achieved a perfect score on the CEI, which was established in 2002.
"All of our employees at Chrysler Group are valued and given the opportunity to contribute to the success of our Company," said Nancy A. Rae, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Chrysler Group LLC. "As an Employer of Choice, Chrysler Group prides itself in creating an inclusive business environment in which all people and ideas are welcome, appreciated and respected."
"This year's CEI also rated businesses' demonstrated commitment to a robust LGBT organizational competency program that enhances an inclusive work environment, a public commitment to the LGBT community in the form of philanthropy, support for LGBT equality under the law, supplier diversity and other efforts aimed at broadly engaging with our community," the report notes. "LGBT people are an integral part of the American workforce and, similarly, the benefits and protections of employment are crucial to our community as we continue to work for full inclusion."
