ST. PAUL, Minn., May 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The CHS Foundation and CHS Inc. (Nasdaq: CHSCP) employees will contribute a total of $84,505 to the Cooperative Development Foundation (CDF) and the American Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund in support of Japan relief efforts.
The CHS Foundation is an independent, private foundation supported by CHS Inc., a leading energy, grains and foods company.
"We recognize the tremendous need for assistance in the wake of the ongoing tragedy caused by the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan," said William Nelson, president, CHS Foundation. "The CHS Foundation and CHS employees are gratified to partner with CDF and the American Red Cross to help Japan in their recovery and rebuilding efforts."
Nelson noted that the American Red Cross was selected due to its well-respected humanitarian relief efforts in the aftermath of natural disasters. The contribution to CDF's Co-op Emergency Fund will provide assistance for cooperatives in need in the hard-hit region, which has a significant agricultural economy.
CDF will receive a total of $54,595, which includes a $50,000 donation from the CHS Foundation and $4,595 in employee donations and matching funds. American Red Cross will receive $29,910, which includes a $25,000 contribution from the CHS Foundation and $4,910 in employee donations and matching funds. More than 65 CHS employees donated to this cause.
