CISA Delegation Attends 2014 World Congress on Information Technology in Mexico to Showcase Taiwanese Cloud Technologies and Applications

TAIPEI, Taiwan, Oct. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2014 World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) was hosted at Expo Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Mexico's second largest city, from September 29 to October 1. The congress was attended by over 3,000 information technology professionals from all over the world. Taiwan's information and communications technology delegation was organized by the Information Service Industry Association of R.O.C. (CISA), and included representatives from research institutions, renowned business entities and organizations in Taiwan in the fields of communications, research and development, and cloud computing software and hardware. "Taiwan ICT Best Practice" applications, which included successful cases of cloud environment R&D technologies, applications and services, were showcased at the 2014 WCIT Expo to international industry professionals. A Taiwan-Mexico ICT Best Practice Workshop was also held at the 2014 WCIT, at which Taiwanese delegates engaged in in-depth discussions with information and communications providers from both Mexico and other countries.

Over the past few years, cloud computing has continued to be a trending topic, and its developments and applications have reshaped the outlook of the information industrial value chain. The Institute for Information Industry's (III) Chief Technology Officer Warren Chen and Wen-Hsin Chan, Advisor of Science & Technology for the Department of Industrial Technology at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, spoke about "Developing Comprehensive Digital Agendas" and "Maximizing Benefits of ICT" at the 2014 WCIT discussion panels. In the seminars that were held on this topic, Chen and Zhan shared Taiwan's experience in developing a highly successful ICT industry with industry professionals from around the world.

One of the most important events in the WCIT proceedings is the presentation of the WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards, which are given by the World Information Technology And Services Alliance (WITSA) to outstanding organizations and individuals in the field of ICT that have been nominated by members of the Alliance. The awards commend recipients for their contribution to the field, and are often considered as the information and communications industry Academy Awards. Although there were many competitors for this year's Global ICT Excellence Awards, with the help of strong recommendations from CISA, Taiwanese participants won first place in two separate categories for the first time. The Institute for Information Industry (III) was the winner in "Sustainable Growth" for its "Smart Energy Management System (III-SEMS)," and President Chain Store Corp. (PCSC) was the winner in "Private Sector Excellence" for the "ibon Lifestyle Convenience Platform." The " AppCross Digital Publishing Platform" developed by III was also awarded as one of the Merit Winners. These achievements fully demonstrate that Taiwan's outstanding developments and applications in cloud technologies have gained the recognition and approval of international experts in the information and communications industry.
