For the past month, each day she traveled to the newest senior living community in Tampa to spend time in her apartment, even though the community had not yet officially opened. Even before the new community welcomed residents, Hazel had some of her belongings already moved in.
"I have yet to meet anybody who hasn't been nice and kind," said Hazel excitedly as her move-in date finally arrived.
Hazel, 85, has been living with her family for the past year, and though she has moved to a different place, the family feeling won't go away one bit. She already takes part in the daily Engaged Living programs that give residents the chance to live life to the fullest. It's not about boring activities — it's about meeting residents where they are, providing them with enriching, upscale activities each day.
She is meeting new people and making friends at the on-site Tampa Theater or in the ample outdoor spaces. She can gather with others for a game of bridge or a glass of wine at the Ybor City Bistro & Cafe before enjoying a chef-prepared meal in the restaurant-style dining room. She can even play Wii bowling in the Citrus Park Lifestyles Room, which could lead to lots of wins for Hazel, an avid bowler who owns a couple of state championships.
"Hazel greeted us with a wave and a smile during her daily visits while we were putting the finishing touches on the community," said Traci Kiklica, executive director with nearly 20 years of experience in leading senior living teams. "Even before moving in, Hazel became part of our family, and the entire staff was so excited when she was finally able to move in."
The grandmother of three who dedicated her life to raising her two sons at home will always have trained, professional staff to help her if she needs it, 24 hours a day. Licensed nurses, plus on-site therapy and rehabilitation staff, will always be there if she requests them. She will have an advanced emergency call system as well.
"Arbor Terrace at Citrus Park has set a new standard for senior living in the Citrus Park and Westchase area," said Kyle Henderson of Capitol Seniors Housing, owners of the community. "But we know that a great staff and excellent care are also key to a well rounded lifestyle. That's why we have partnered again with The Arbor Company to operate the community."
Each resident has their own unique needs and the Arbor Terrace staff recognizes that. Three different neighborhoods are designed for residents depending on their needs. Hazel will live in the assisted living area, while others will live in the Evergreen memory care neighborhood or the Bridges neighborhood that caters to those who are "in between" the need for enhanced memory care services. A comprehensive assessment with the Resident Care director (a licensed nurse) will determine the best program for each resident, and staff will routinely review each resident's condition to ensure the resident's needs and staff assistance are in alignment.
Hazel has finally moved in and is getting settled in her brand-new apartment, and she has already started to discover just how great life is at Tampa's newest upscale senior living community.
