CITY BUZZ LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Talia McClure-Moore launches unique Black Woman owned company to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the greater communities they serve.
Want Moore: Facilitating through the post protest evolution and forward movement, to bridge law enforcement and community efforts.
EL SOBRANTE, Calif., Feb. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to growing resentment of law enforcement present in many communities across the country, new approaches to resolve these issues must be implemented. The success of both require evolving beyond fixed beliefs and systemic bias, to actualizing the goals of each- working with, protecting and serving the community. Law enforcement frequently encounter the mentally ill and young adults from various ethnic groups. They are often perceived to be more deviant in nature and treated harsher from initial police contact through the court process.
Want Moore is a space to create and facilitate transformative learning in criminal justice, education and within the community, by providing informed and culturally aware professional development training to law enforcement agencies, educational and community institutions and the public and private sector, and pre-and post-adjudication consultation and reentry job readiness skills to ex-offenders.
Want Moore works with law enforcement to recognize the symptoms and special needs of the mentally ill, the needs of transitional age youth, and to develop officer self-care techniques to ward off the harmful and potentially detrimental impacts of trauma associated with the work. Non-law enforcement training serves to inform communities, organizations and businesses about various components of the criminal justice system, as it impacts them and their client population. Want Moore offers consultation about the court and probation process, referrals to service providers and works with ex-offenders to develop job readiness skills and research employment opportunities.
Want Moore was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area, by Dr. Talia McClure-Moore. As a former Deputy-Probation Officer, she worked extensively with transitional age youth and both juvenile and adult mentally ill offenders.
