CLAAD Recognizes The Locking Cap as Top 5 Technology To Reduce Rx Abuse
WASHINGTON, Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Center for Lawful Access and Abuse Deterrence (CLAAD) today honored The Locking Cap as one of its "Top 5 Technologies To Reduce Prescription Drug Abuse."
This small safe is the only 4-digit combination locking cap for prescription bottles on the market to prevent prescription drug abuse among unauthorized users.
The Locking Cap's inventor Joseph Simpson began his crusade to stop prescription drug abuse in high school after witnessing his brother battle addiction. Now in college, Simpson and his team are dedicated to saving lives "one cap at a time."
"Our vision is to stop adolescent prescription abuse before it starts," said Simpson. "Along with being a deterrent, our product helps stop denial and start conversations between parents and kids."
The Top 5 Technologies competition aims to increase awareness of the prescription abuse epidemic, and support private-sector efforts addressing this problem.
CLAAD spokesman Michael Barnes stated, "The Locking Cap answers our organization's call for new products to foster safe medication storage and prevent kids from experimenting with prescription drugs."
Millennium Laboratories co-sponsored the contest. Millennium provides medication monitoring, detection and testing services.
"We are proud to recognize The Locking Cap for joining Millennium and CLAAD in our efforts to advance patient care and reduce prescription drug abuse," said Millennium Laboratories President Howard Appel.
