Clinton Township Supervisor Bob Cannon finds Oakland Township's Motion to Deny Michigan Paralyzed Veterans Fair Housing Appalling
DETROIT, Feb. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following statement may be attributed to Bob Cannon, Supervisor Clinton Township:
"I find it disturbing in this era that discrimination in housing still exists. I have been an elected official for 31 years and the Supervisor of Clinton Township for the past 14 years, and I have never seen such a blatant disregard for persons of special needs or senior citizens as the recent position taken by the Board of Trustees of Oakland Township. Their actions are cowardly and disingenuous as they try to hide behind a technicality stating the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of American have no standing in this discrimination law suit. I find their actions appalling.
"I personally purchased a house that backs up to two wonderful housing complexes that caters to seniors and those in need of some special consideration. I have been the chairperson of SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, and we constantly work toward fairness in all nine counties that we represent. I currently represent SEMCOG on the National Board of Council of Governments. I hope that the Oakland Township Board sees the folly of their actions and does what is in the best interest of all of their current and future residents."
