CloudConnect Makes Available Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 Emulated
Next generation Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider, CloudConnect, makes Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 (emulated) available on its hosted infrastructure platform.
NATICK, Mass., Nov. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CloudConnect, a leader in cloud hosted infrastructure, Desktop-as-a-Service, and disaster recovery, announced today that it has made Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 (emulated) available on the CloudConnect IaaS and DaaS platform.
Beginning this week, Windows Server 2016 is widely available on CloudConnect, along with Windows 10 (emulated) for Citrix and RDS virtual desktop deployments.
Windows Server 2016 has been strongly anticipated for use with Citrix and RDS virtual desktops. As the Server counterpart to Windows 10, the familiar start button with start menu is back. Additionally, CloudConnect users connecting from Windows 10 devices will have a similar Desktop Experience when using the Windows 10 Emulated Virtual Desktop.
CloudConnect released Server 2016 installation media to CloudConnect's Public Catalog, accompanied by pre-installed images of Server Standalone 2016, Server 2016 RDS, and Windows 10 Emulated by Citrix XenApp 7.11. Support extends to sysprep and cloning capabilities in vCloud Director, as well as CloudConnect's Desktop Configuration tool and Desktop Deployment Wizard for rapid provisioning and image maintenance.
An In-Place OS Upgrade Preparation Tool is also available to simplify upgrading Windows 8.1 emulated Virtual Desktops to Windows 10 (Note: Clients running Windows 7 Emulated images will first need to upgrade those images to Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 10). There are no additional licensing fees for the upgrade on CloudConnect.
Windows Server 2016 was initially released by Microsoft on September 26, 2016 at Microsoft's Ignite Conference and became widely available in October. CloudConnect has performed extensive testing in preparation for the release.
Most of the familiar Server 2012 R2 style management tools still exist. New features include extended group policy options. Policy settings may be applied at the domain, OU, site, or local computer level. Server 2016 adds performance improvements as well, simplified network management, and support for Windows containers on Windows 10.
Mainstream support for Windows Server 2012 is available until January 9th, 2018, and end-of-life is slated for January 10th, 2023. Extended support for Windows Server 2008 R2 doesn't end until January 2020, which allows time for CloudConnect partners to prepare for the upgrade.
CloudConnect facilitates this upgrade by providing an in-place migration path to Server 2016, greatly simplifying the steps associated with the upgrade.
