NORTHFIELD, Ill., Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The College of American Pathologists (CAP) recognized six CAP junior members for their outstanding scientific posters and original research at a special ceremony at the College's annual meeting, CAP'14—THE Pathologists' Meeting™, taking place today through Sept. 10. The winning abstracts are available on the Web site of the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (www.archivesofpathology.org), the CAP's award-winning medical journal.
"It is an honor to recognize these six exceptional CAP members for their original research," said CAP President Gene N. Herbek, MD, FCAP. "Their dedication to pathology and the advancement of science in an effort to enhance patient care is remarkable."
A CAP-sponsored competition, the CAP '14 Abstract Program provides pathologists with a unique opportunity to enhance their research skills, develop writing proficiency, gain practical experience at presenting their findings, and contribute to the advancement of pathology. It is designed to promote a broad range of research in pathology and offers pathologists and research scientists the opportunity to submit original research to their peers in a poster presentation format.
Archives editors evaluated more than 700 submissions for this year's abstract program. The winning abstracts cover a range of scientific topics, including the evaluation and grading of bone cancer to assess chemotherapy treatment, to the use of next-generation sequencing on cytology specimens to help better diagnose cancer.
