Community Health Center Receives Affordable Care Act Grant Second Site To Open In March 2014
WOODBRIDGE, Va., Nov. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Greater Prince William Community Health Center (www.GPWHealthCenter.org), a non-profit, 501c3, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), providing integrated and coordinated health care services to uninsured and insured families in our community was recently awarded an additional $650,000 annual grant to open a second health care Center in Manassas, Virginia.
The announcement, by U.S. Department Of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, is part of $150 million in awards under the Affordable Care Act to open 236 new Centers across the country to serve an additional 1 million patients.
The Health Center's second location is expected to open in Manassas in March 2014. The Center will replicate its award-winning health care services at the new location, including primary, dental, behavioral, and OB-GYN services for the whole family under one roof. The Center's Level III Designation for Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) is currently pending a decision by the National Committee For Quality Assurance (NCQA).
The Center's second site will provide affordable access to health care services for working families in the region. The site will also provide an economic boost to the area both in terms of job creation and economic development. In addition to the 68 staff at its Ridgewood Center location, the Center expects to employ an additional 20-25 more staff for the March opening. These new positions include Family Practice Physicians, Obstetrician/Gynecologists, Nurse Practitioners, Dentists, and Behavioral Health Specialists, as well as the support staff required to support the operations.
The new Center will serve 5,000 new patients in 15,000 encounters in the first year of operations. The Center will improve many of the existing health disparities like diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and asthma that exist in the Manassas and Manassas Park areas.
"This is a major milestone for our community," declared Frank J. Principi, the Center's Executive Director. "The addition of the second site will bring high-paying careers to the area, expand economic development, and significantly improve the quality of life for thousands of our residents." The Center will accept all patients, including the insured, uninsured, Medicaid, and Medicare recipients. According to Principi, "Our integrated care model is working well and a second site will enable us to scale the business model and provide our kind of care to several thousand additional patients in our community."
As an FQHC, the Center works to improve access to comprehensive, culturally-competent, and quality health care services. The Center utilizes an integrated and coordinated service delivery model that cares for the whole patient, ensuring patients receive the highest quality of care. The Center has the only CMS trained and certified staff providing free enrollment assistance for the public on the Health Insurance Marketplace (www.HealthCare.gov).
