Metrics taken into consideration for the ranking of online computer science programs include a multivariate weight of the affordability of programs, the academic prestige of programs, and the number of emphases, concentrations, or specializations that are available for students to tailor their education.
The affordability metric is computed with the out-of-state tuition per credit hour relative to other surveyed programs. The prestige ranking involves the rank and classification of the parent institution in other top academic rankings. The Number of concentrations takes into account the number of ways in which students can tailor a program to suit their unique academic and professional goals.
Notable trends include the most affordable programs of Fort Hays State University and Baker College both costing less than $300 per credit hour. As well as all programs on the final ranking achieving regional accreditation.
Other details covered in the ranking include the unique features of many online programs (including accelerated courses, asynchronous vs. synchronous learning, and support services). As well as the courses commonly offered in undergraduate computer science degrees.
