ComRent International Introduces 11.5 kW Rack-Mountable Load Bank
Rack-Mountable Load Bank Creates More Efficient Server Simulation and Integrated System Testing for Data Center
OWINGS, Md., Nov. 12, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- ComRent International, LLC, the industry leader in load bank rentals and services, has engineered and launched the CRLS 11.5 kW load bank, a 19" rack-mountable load bank, weighing 56 lbs. The new load bank is designed specifically for testing hot aisle containment and cold aisle isolation while providing variable fan speed control, which offers incomparable function and efficiency for data centers.

"The 11.5 sets itself apart from other rack-mountable load banks with its innovative engineering and functionality," said Clay Taylor, president and CEO of ComRent International. "The design enables our data center clients to quickly validate multiple power sources within their server racks, efficiently prove the HVAC capabilities of their aisle design and validate the high density cooling of the racks. Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is also easily identified with the steady state load delivered by the 11.5.
"The features of this new design were created to accommodate future testing needs, albeit adjustments to current equipment or integration of new technologies being developed specifically for data centers," he said.
The 11.5 kW variable fan speed control allows adjustment of airflow, temperature data and altitude compensation and can be used to adjust the applied load. The unit has two channels with input per channel that can operate at independent voltages and has an adjustment range from 530 CFM to a maximum of 730 CFM per channel.
With three load steps per channel, the load bank allows for five different load combinations, providing a fine load step resolution at all voltages. A channel can be disabled with the master load switch, which prevents the fans for that channel from operating and inhibits the load application for that channel.
Additionally, the fan and control power can be sourced internally or externally. The external fan and control power allows the unit to be used to create a black start condition.
The current draw is 2.6 A @ 120VAC with the fan at its maximum setting (internal or external power). At full load, the CRLS 11.5 kW offers: 4404 watts @ 120VAC; 8554 watts @ 208VAC; 10,576 watts @ 230VAC; and 11,592 watts @ 240VAC.
With exceptional functional benefits, the 11.5 measures 9U in height and is supported by front-mounting plates, allowing it to fit easily into traditional server racks and eliminating the need for bracing or temporary shelves.
For more than a decade, ComRent has developed protocols that set the standard for load banking primary and backup power sources and systems. ComRent has made more power system evaluations possible than any other load bank rental company in North America and continues to be a leader in innovation.
