DALLAS, Dec. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Concentra, a subsidiary of Humana Inc., is taking part in National Influenza Vaccination Week (December 2-9) as designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The company is also making seasonal influenza vaccines available through its Concentra Urgent Care centers.
In support of National Influenza Vaccination Week, all Concentra Urgent Care locations will be offering the single-dose influenza vaccine, while supplies last. The 2012/2013 single-dose vaccine covers the seasonal flu strain and provides the best defense against contracting the flu virus.
"The flu season typically begins its peak in December and can extend into May, and influenza viruses are known to be unpredictable and easily spread," said Senior Vice President of Medical Operations Bill Lewis, M.D, Concentra. "With the holidays upon us, frequent travel and festive gatherings mean increased risk of catching and spreading flu germs, making vaccination against influenza both timely and important. Many individuals have yet to get an annual flu vaccine and, with vaccines readily available across the country, we're urging patients in our communities to get vaccinated."
Flu shots are available at all Concentra Urgent Care locations across the country, to patients four years of age and older. No appointment is necessary, walk-ins are welcome. In addition to flu vaccines, the company also offers health care services for a wide range of serious injuries and illnesses, including colds, seasonal allergies, skin infections, broken bones, and many other conditions.
With locations throughout the nation, many with weekend and extended evening hours, Concentra delivers comprehensive health care solutions to patients – providing the care they need, when they need it most.
