The first-ever Print CEO of the Year award was presented to the printing executive who best embodies inspirational leadership and success, which Davis exemplified through creating and strengthening Consolidated Graphics' Leadership Development Program, as well as strong corporate management and industry leadership in digital print technologies. Other deciding factors included building a company from one facility into an integrated multi-national platform of 70 printing companies, maintaining a flat management structure that provides company presidents with operating autonomy, executing a purposeful acquisition strategy, and incorporating innovative new technology.
"It is an honor to be recognized by your peers for having an impact on the industry," said Davis. "This award represents the accomplishments of a talented group of company presidents and executives at Consolidated Graphics, who are responsible for the day-to-day successes that keep our company growing and prospering. It's important to me to build a company that not only succeeds financially, but which also supports and develops the people that make it work."
The award was presented by Randy Davidson of What They Think, and was followed by remarks from Davis, who emphasized the importance of the company's Leadership Development Program. "What keeps me going is training young people in the industry," Davis remarked upon accepting the award. "We look for people with a history of accomplishment and success, and then we teach them about print." Davis cited the Leadership Development Program, which has produced 23 of the company's 70 presidents, as one of his proudest achievements since founding Consolidated Graphics.
Other finalists included Robert Keane, CEO, Vistaprint; John Lacagnina, CEO, ColorCentric Corp.; Joel Quadracci, Chairman and CEO, Quad/Graphics; and Adam Slutsky, CEO, Mimeo. The award was co-sponsored by What They Think and Manroland, who jointly presented the finalists with commissioned trophies created by Mac Worthington and modeled after What They Think's logo, in the form of a question mark.
