Synopsis
Construction activity in Brazil was weak during the review period (2011–2015) following the economic recession, which resulted in a deteriorating business environment, weak investor confidence and a reduction in construction activity.
Consequently, the industry's output value in real terms contracted at a compound annual growth rate of -0.32% during the review period.
The industry is expected to remain subdued over the forecast period (2016–2020), albeit with a slight improvement. The probable persistence of the economic recession until 2017 is expected to hamper the industry's growth during 2016–2017.

Key Highlights
- The Brazilian government is considering privatization as a means to stimulate economic growth. In September 2016 it introduced Projeto Crescer (Project Growth), an infrastructure privatization program aimed at stimulating private sector investment. This program is expected to add momentum to the pace of investment in the construction industry over the forecast period.
- The Brazilian construction industry is expected to be supported by Chinese investments in infrastructure. Under the program, the government announced plans to renovate over 342,000 houses in slum areas of the city during 2010–2020.
