Consumers Energy Offers Lowest Natural Gas Price Of Any Energy Provider In Michigan
JACKSON, Mich., Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- With the winter heating season starting, Consumers Energy has returned to its position of having the lowest natural gas price of any Michigan energy provider.
"We have worked hard for years to maximize our purchasing and storage strategy so that the 1.7 million Michigan residents and business owners who receive natural gas from us can have more money to spend on other needs," said Timothy Sparks, vice president of energy supply operations for Consumers Energy. "We're not only delivering natural gas safely, but at the best price you'll find in Michigan."
Michigan residents will pay $4.59 per thousand cubic feet of natural gas as of Nov. 1. That is 14 cents below the next-lowest cost charged by the state's six other major natural gas providers.
Consumers Energy customers are benefitting from improvements to the company's natural gas system that continue to lower prices. The company constantly monitors more than 2,500 miles of pipeline that move gas safely and efficiently, and stores gas in 15 underground fields in Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
"We spend the entire year making sure there's an adequate gas supply that's ready when Michigan residents turn on the heat in the winter," Sparks said. "We prepare and take steps, such as pumping gas into the ground during warm weather, to be sure people are getting this important commodity at the best price we can offer."

Michigan residents are benefitting, too, from the fact that the cost of natural gas has fallen in recent years. Already, Consumers Energy announced that customers this winter will pay 44 percent less for natural gas compared to five years ago.
