Contour Semiconductor's Saul Zales Addresses New Technologies at SNIA Non-Volatile Memory Summit
N. BILLERICA, Mass., Jan. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Saul Zales, president and CEO of Contour Semiconductor, Inc., will speak on the future of non-volatile memory technology at SNIA's Non-Volatile Memory Summit, January 20, in San Jose, Calif. The panel "NVM Futures: Are We Near the Beginning of a New Solid State Epoch, or Is That Just a Big Fireball in the Sky?" is scheduled for 1:50 p.m.
Diode Transistor Memory (DTM™) technology, the world's lowest production cost non-volatile memory technology, is backed by 45 issued and/or allowed patents and more than two dozen patent applications in process. DTM overcomes production and CapEx challenges that plague NAND manufacturers, while offering significant technical advantages over traditional NAND flash memory.
DTM is a durable and scalable technology based on phase-change memory. Its granular cross-point array reduces complexity, eliminates the block page mismatch and solves other issues that for years have frustrated developers working with the cost and constraints of developing a NAND flash memory finished product. Contour DTM incorporates historically proven approaches and materials that reduce the mask and process steps by 65 percent compared to NAND flash technology.
"The $25 billion flash memory market, including consumer and enterprise products, is struggling in the face of the ever-increasing costs of new fabs and production tools," said Zales. "Contour believes DTM has the density and architectural specs to support new and future applications such as wearables, enterprise storage, Internet-connected devices and the Internet of Things (IoT), via sustainable, economic and efficient manufacturing processes."
Zales has over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, including engineering, marketing, business management and equity investments. He was executive vice president of corporate business development at Fusion-io, and was vice president and general manager of corporate development at Numonyx B.V. prior to that company's acquisition by Micron. Zales was also at Intel Corporation for 24 years, last serving as director of its flash memory business, where he guided the company's joint ventures, joint development programs and technology licensing related to flash technology.
Co-located with the SNIA Annual Members' Symposium at the Sainte Claire Hotel, 302 South Market Street in San Jose, the one-day summit on non-volatile memory offers critical insights into NVM and the future of computing. Registration and attendance is complimentary.
