Control Gaging Breaks Ground In Ann Arbor On New U.S. Headquarters
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Control Gaging recently broke ground on its new Pittsfield Township facility, where the company will engineer, design and manufacture precision gauges for machine tools. The company, which has outgrown its current location, is building a new 24,500 sq ft facility with support from Comerica Bank, architectural firm Hobbs & Black, and construction management firm J.S. Vig.
Its new facility will improve efficiency in Control Gaging's current operations and offer the company room for future growth. It will also offer natural recreation options to employees; the company plans to add a bike path around the facility and plant more than 200 trees on the site.
Unlike other suppliers, Control Gaging creates made-to-order measurement equipment products, all under one roof. It engineers and manufactures specialty, custom products for its customers, which span a range of businesses in the machining industry. Control Gaging's growth is a direct result of an upsurge in manufacturing in the U.S.
"We are finding that many manufacturers are bringing their manufacturing back to the U.S. because they aren't saving money by having manufacturing off shore," said David Hayes, president, Control Gaging. "Although many suppliers are experiencing growth right now, Control Gaging's reputation for durability and customization is pushing our business ahead of competitors."
Control Gaging chose to expand in Ann Arbor because of the rich talent pool in the region. "The talented machinists and engineers in Ann Arbor are second to none," Hayes explained. "Our customers value the quality of Control Gaging's products, and our talented team is the foundation of our business. We not only work hard to hire the best, it's a source of pride for the company that we work hard to keep them on our team; the average tenure for an employee at Control Gaging is 15 years."
Control Gaging's growth in Ann Arbor is a reflection of Ann Arbor's reputation as a talent-rich region. "Companies like Control Gaging know that being in Ann Arbor is a competitive advantage," said Paul Krutko, Ann Arbor SPARK president and CEO. Ann Arbor SPARK has continued to work with the company throughout its expansion process. "For companies of all sizes, from start-ups to global companies like Control Gaging, having access to world-class talent that know how to engineer and build precision equipment is an asset unique to the Ann Arbor region and to the businesses that choose to locate here."
