COO of DreamWorks Nova and CTO of Oriental DreamWorks, Derek Chan, Resigns to Accept Chief Executive Officer Position at Energy Technology Start-Up, Amici Enterprises
LOS ANGELES, June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Derek Chan, the former Chief Operating Officer of DreamWorks Nova and Chief Technology Officer of Oriental DreamWorks, resigned from DreamWorks today to accept the Chief Executive Officer post at energy conservation technology company, Amici Enterprises, LLC.
"I've spent nearly twenty years at DreamWorks and helped build it from the ground up, but at this stage in my career I want to leverage all my experience and global technology contacts to be part of something that can make a meaningful contribution to humanity," explained Chan. "That's why I accepted the CEO position at Amici Enterprises. The company's proprietary energy efficiency platform is quietly being used by more than eighty companies around the world and is proven to drastically reduce electric power consumption by more than twenty percent per year, and that's just in industrial scenarios. The possibilities for this technology are phenomenal and I am looking forward to leading this company into every possible channel where the technology can be used to reduce energy consumption, minimize carbon emissions, and maximize the productivity and lifespan products and machines that depend upon electricity to operate."
"We are very pleased that Derek has accepted the CEO position at Amici Enterprises," said Joshua Macciello, Chairman of Amici Enterprises, LLC. "He has certainly proven his leadership skills and get-it-done work ethic on a global scale and we look forward to collaborating with him to help our company realize its full potential."
Amici Enterprises, LLC is a technology development, sales and marketing company that has secured exclusive rights to a proprietary technology known as MPTS (Maximum Power Transfer Solutions). The technology, now being marketed as AmiciMPTS (www.amicimpts.com), is being used by numerous companies and organizations around the world including the United States Air Force at NORAD, Underwriters Laboratories, school districts, hospitals, hotels and manufacturing facilities. The MPTS technology has been proven to reduce total electrical power consumption of inductive loads at these facilities by 20% to 40%-percent per year, to increase the useful life of electrically connected devices by up to 20%, and to thereby reduce the amount of carbon emissions caused by generating electrical power.
Prior to joining Amici Enterprises, Chan, was the Chief Technology Officer responsible for helping to found, build and staff Oriental DreamWorks, a joint venture between DreamWorks Animation, China Media Capital, Shanghai Media Group, and Shanghai Alliance Investment. He was also the Chief Operating Officer of DreamWorks NOVA, the technology company that is bringing DreamWorks' image creation capabilities to other enterprises. He was part of the executive team that led the company through both a seed funding round as well as a subsequent Series A funding.
First Contract Under Chan's Leadership - $8.4 Million
Upon confirmation of Chan's acceptance of the CEO position, Amici Enterprises entered into an agreement with San Clemente, CA-based American Energy Performance Solutions ("AEPS") to purchase 200 AmiciMPTS units for distribution in multiple facilities throughout North and South America. The total contract value is $8.4 million. AEPS is currently one of Amici Enterprises most prominent customers and has created an equipment financing program for AmiciMPTS clients.
"We have been searching for a technology like AmiciMPTS for a long time and synergistically speaking this addition provides tremendous value when combined with the other energy-saving technologies AEPS deploys for our customers," said David Tofolo, Chief Operating Officer of AEPS. "With Derek at the helm, we have every confidence that Amici Enterprises will deliver the technology and equipment we need to differentiate our services in the marketplace and to help our customers reduce their energy consumption by up to 40%."
