Copper River Sockeye Salmon Now Available Via Community Supported Fishery
Drifters Fish Launches Direct Marketing Option in Pacific Northwest
CORDOVA, Alaska, July 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fishermen Michael and Nelly Hand, the owners of Drifters Fish in Cordova, Alaska, are pleased to announce that they are offering their professionally processed and flash frozen Copper River sockeye via a Community Supported Fishery program. Renowned for red color and rich bellies, Copper River sockeye is coveted worldwide. Thanks to this CSF, which is modeled after a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, home cooks in the Pacific Northwest region can purchase this salmon in advance, pick it up near their home, and be assured of a year round source of high quality sustainably harvested Alaska salmon.
Winter residents of Guemes Island, Washington, the Hands have been members of the Copper River community for many years. The owners of the Pelican, they launched the Drifters Fish CSF to create a direct link between themselves and the cook. Nelly Hand explains, "'Know Your Fisherman' is our inspiration and with our CSF we will be bringing the sockeye that we caught with our own hands directly to home cooks who want to experience the fishery from afar. It's about connecting folks to sustainable, wild salmon and the fisherman who caught it."
Drifters Fish has three current CSF locations in Washington State—Seattle, Bellingham and Anacortes. The Hands are currently expanding to additional Pacific Northwest locations as demand and requests increase. Starting in September, the Hands will be delivering the frozen sockeye orders directly to customer pick up locations in the Northwest via their Volkswagen van. Customers interested in reserving their share of this year's catch should visit www.driftersfish.com.
Nelly Hand says, "We are proud and honored to catch wild salmon. We want our customers to know their fishermen and we want to know our customers." Follow Michael and Nelly Hand's fishing season on Instagram @driftersfish and Facebook Drifters Fish.
