PINEVILLE, La., May 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MV Health, a leading group of expert healthcare regulatory compliance consultants, announced that 26-year-old Taylor Cottano RN, BSN has earned the Certified in Infection Control (CIC®) credential becoming one of the youngest certified Infection Control Nurses in America. The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC®) Certification indicates that Mr. Cottano has demonstrated a mastery of infection prevention and control knowledge by taking and passing their comprehensive examination.
According to a recent article in the American Journal of Infection Control surveying infection control professionals across the United States, less than 3% of the respondents were less than 30 years old. Certified Infection Control nurses are extraordinarily rare, especially in Louisiana. Individuals who earn their CIC® credential join approximately 5,000 practitioners worldwide who are certified in Infection Control, a small percentage of those being Registered Nurses. Currently, there are only 24 Certified Infection Control nurses in Louisiana, and just over 1,000 throughout the entire United States.
Mr. Cottano, raised in rural New Roads, Louisiana, graduated with two undergraduate degrees, one in nursing, at Louisiana College. Mr. Cottano's zeal and persistence is only surpassed by his passion to ensure patients receive the best healthcare possible. Appreciating the need for ongoing access to high quality, affordable healthcare, Mr. Cottano made his singular passion to help hospitals and other healthcare organizations control and prevent the spread of disease.
"At MV Health, our goal is to develop, sustain, and enhance healthcare systems to deliver high quality and affordable healthcare in communities throughout the world," said Clay Matchett, Senior Consultant, Principal. "We are so excited that Taylor has achieved this rare designation and hope that with this certification he can change how hospitals and healthcare providers apply infection control principles to better serve the patients they see." "The diligence and expertise it takes to successfully obtain this credential cannot be understated," according to Heath Veuleman, Senior Consultant, Principal. He continued, "This only demonstrates to our clients throughout the United States that MV Health is the most qualified, experienced, and dedicated team of regulatory compliance professionals keeping our client organizations, and ultimately, patients, at the heart of our mission."
"Multiple healthcare organizations in Louisiana that I have worked with have experience a disconnect between what is required for regulatory compliance and what is best for their patients." says Mr. Cottano. "With the knowledge I have gained through research and experience, I hope to demonstrate regulatory compliance, reimbursement, and patient outcomes, are all interrelated and positively correlated." In addition, Mr. Cottano became a principal partner at MV Health January 1, 2016.
Although he travels extensively, Mr. Cottano resides with his wife, Meggie Cottano, a front-line nurse in a local emergency department, in Pineville, Louisiana where MV Health is based.
