Country's Leading Cooling Equipment Manufacturers Host Webinar for Mitigating the Risk of Legionella Bacteria
EVAPCO, Baltimore Aircoil Company and SPX Cooling Technologies Present a Summary of Recent Legionnaires' Disease Outbreaks and Best Practices for Legionella Growth Prevention
TANEYTOWN, Md., Jan. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Three of the country's leading cooling equipment manufacturers—EVAPCO, Inc.; Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC); and SPX Cooling Technologies—are partnering with High Performing Buildings magazine to host a supplier webinar titled "Mitigating the Risk of Legionella Bacteria." This webinar—which will be broadcast live, free of charge, on January 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. ET—will provide interested parties information about recent Legionnaires' disease outbreaks with a focus on "outside the building" approaches to Legionella bacteria prevention.
Reports of waterborne illnesses are increasing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Legionnaires' disease infects more than 5,000 people each year in the United States and has a mortality rate of approximately 10 percent. Unfortunately, Legionella is only one of the many threats that live in a pipe's biofilm throughout our public water supply and distribution systems.
Currently, building owners are being targeted to manage all risks of waterborne illnesses. Understanding where bacteria such as Legionella colonize, how it enters the water supply system, and the risks it poses to home and building owners as a result, is the basis for any prevention plan. This webinar will focus on and provide information for each of these related topics:
- The increasing threat of waterborne illnesses and its impact on building owners.
- Lessons learned from recent Legionella outbreaks.
- The public water supply system and how it can affect building owners.
- Seven steps of Legionella risk mitigation.
- Three steps of risk mitigation that a building owner's actions will directly impact.
- ASHRAE-188 Standard and CDC Building Water Management Toolkit.
