SAN JOSE, Calif., March 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- San Jose Credit Union turns 80 years old March 4 and will celebrate the anniversary by giving away 80 prizes. Mondays through Thursdays starting March 5th, two winners will each receive 2 AMC Gold Experience™ tickets. On Fridays, one winner will win two movie tickets plus an additional prize of $80 cash. Members can enter the drawings through a form located on the Credit Union's Web site through April 26th.
"For 80 years, we've operated from the same core value of people helping people," says Andrea Brewer, San Jose Credit Union President. "Awarding prizes to members is an ideal way to celebrate this momentous year."
The Credit Union, chartered in 1932 as Municipal Employees' Credit Union of San Jose, opened with only 4 members and ended its first fiscal year with $262 in Share balances. The 4th charter member, Lawrence Campbell, is the longest-tenured living member. Mr. Campbell, a retired San Jose Firefighter Chief who turns 105 this April, recalls that the Credit Union was started by a handful of people to provide each other "good and handy service".
"When we started the Credit Union, some people said it wouldn't succeed," says Mr. Campbell. "I appreciate today's membership because they are the reason we've been able to help each other and stay in business for 80 years."
Today, the Credit Union has more than 12,500 members and maintains assets over $130 Million.
"Our continued growth remains as strong as our commitment to member loyalty and the community," says Brewer. "Members should feel good about where we have come from and where we are headed."
According to Brewer, the Credit Union will hold an official celebration event at their annual meeting on March 7th at 5:30 p.m. at their branch on 140 Asbury Street.
