Cylance® Hires Security Industry Veteran John McClurg from Dell
McClurg joins new Office of Security and Trust to be led by Chief Security and Trust Officer Malcolm Harkins
IRVINE, Calif., July 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cylance®, the company that is revolutionizing cybersecurity through the use of artificial intelligence to proactively prevent advanced persistent threats and malware, today announced that it has hired John McClurg as Vice President in the Office of Security and Trust (OST). He will assist in building Security and Trust programs for the company alongside Malcolm Harkins, who is taking on the title of Cylance's Chief Security and Trust Officer. McClurg joins Cylance from Dell Global Security, where he was the Vice President and Chief Security Officer for five years.
"We're thrilled to have John on board to spearhead our operational excellence efforts within the Cylance OST. The launch of the OST and our philanthropic efforts to provide advanced cyber protection to non-profits align well with our goal of protecting everyone under the sun," said Stuart McClure, president and CEO at Cylance. "In a world where cyber and physical interdependencies are growing ever more complex, John's expertise at advancing cyber and physical security as one combined effort will be a significant asset within our organization."
In Harkins' new role, he'll continue to report to McClure and maintain responsibility for enabling business growth through trusted infrastructure, systems, and business processes. Harkins is also responsible for peer outreach activities, driving improvement around the world in the understanding of cyber risks and best practices to manage and mitigate those risks.
"Trust is a function of two factors: competence and character," said Harkins. "Given the dramatic increase in risk we've seen over the past several years and the potential catastrophic implications of an attack on critical infrastructure, we must all make critical changes. John and I are committed to helping trust be both enduring and durable. We believe that Cylance is uniquely positioned to bring greater security to organizations by building and maintaining trust with our customers and our community."
McClurg will also serve as Cylance's Ambassador-at-Large, engaging with the industry on the risk challenges today and how Cylance uniquely mitigates them with the application of machine learning with CylancePROTECT®. He will also focus on the collective move from a historically reactive security posture to one focused on proactively predicting and mitigating future risks.
"Cylance's protection efforts are actually delivering the type of societal impacts that other companies strive to achieve, and I'm extremely pleased to be a part of the team," McClurg said. "I personally believe that I can deliver the greatest impact to the greatest number of organizations in the shortest period of time at Cylance."
McClurg joins Cylance with a diverse history of academic, government, and business experience. Most recently at Dell, McClurg led strategy and tactical operations for internal global security services and improved the effectiveness and efficiency of security initiatives. Prior to Dell, McClurg was CSO for Honeywell International, where he led internal physical and cyber global security services. McClurg has also served in the U.S. government where, as a special agent in the FBI, he supported the missions of numerous government agencies, including those of the CIA, DOD, and DOE, battling terrorism, cybercrime, and espionage. Today, Cylance protects millions of endpoints across more than 1,000 customers, significantly reducing the number of security events that impact network performance, employee productivity and brand reputation. In just a few short years, Cylance has built itself up as a leader in the security industry, recently raising $100 million in Series D funding on the heels of 1100% year-over-year customer billings growth since June 2015. In 2016 alone, Cylance has been named to the CNBC Disruptor 50 list and was called an endpoint security "visionary" by Gartner.
