Darigold's Giant "Fun Fridge" Delivers Delicious Surprises While Benefitting Northwest Harvest
Local dairy company donates 25,000 gallons of milk for hunger relief in Washington State; public is encouraged to contribute to food drive and family entertainment event on Sept. 8 at Fremont Sunday Market
SEATTLE, Sept. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Darigold's giant "Fun Fridge" will be at the Fremont Sunday Market on Sept. 8 serving up gourmet food samples and family fun all to benefit Northwest Harvest. Featuring a giant 16-foot refrigerator full of surprises – including food and entertainment – guests won't know what the Fun Fridge has in store until the door swings open!
In an effort to help fight hunger in Washington State, the Fun Fridge event is for a great cause and marks Darigold's recent year-long commitment to provide two pallets of milk per week to Northwest Harvest, which amounts to 25,000 gallons of milk annually. Darigold also encourages the public to donate non-perishable items to help fill the other refrigerators on site, all of which will be donated to Northwest Harvest, a Washington state hunger relief agency. Darigold's donation, coupled with the non-perishable food items donated by "Fun Fridge" attendees, will help Northwest Harvest continue to provide more than 1.8 million meals each month to families in need.
"Dairy products, and milk in particular is an amazing gift!" said Shelley Rotondo, Chief Executive Officer for Northwest Harvest in reaction to Darigold's recent donation promise. "Milk is an extremely high-need, nutritious item that is so critical to children, who comprise about 36% of all those we serve. The milk will specifically benefit food banks in Seattle, Wallingford, Georgetown, Lake City and Rainier Valley, nourishing nearly 4,000 families each month!"
The Fun Fridge includes a farmalicious line-up of local favorites and activities everyone in the family will enjoy. Renowned Seattle Chef Jason Wilson of Crush will be there to dish out gourmet bites (including Darigold buttermilk donuts) for fans to enjoy while listening to School of Rock perform pop hits throughout the decades. Additionally, local media personality Jenni Hogan will host the fun-filled event through the afternoon. Attendees can also participate by Tweeting messages to @Darigold to be displayed in giant magnetic letters on the fridge.
