DataStax Enterprise 2.1 Launches with Enhanced Hadoop Capabilities, Faster Performance, and Support for Oracle Unbreakable Linux Enhancements Solidify DataStax Enterprise's Position as the Only Big Data Solution that Offers an Integrated Platform for Managing OLTP, Analytic and Search Data Together in One Database
SAN MATEO, Calif., June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- 2012 Hadoop Summit (@hadoopsummit) – DataStax, the commercial leader in Apache Cassandra™, today announced DataStax Enterprise (DSE) 2.1, with increased capabilities for running a Hadoop cluster across multiple data centers, along with support for Mahout and Oracle Unbreakable Linux. In addition, numerous enhancements to DataStax OpsCenter, a visual management and monitoring solution for big data platforms, are also available. The new offering brings increased database functionality and management tools together into one big data solution not available from any other vendor.
"The DSE platform is the ideal architecture for modern OLTP applications, and early tests are indicating DSE 2.1 Hadoop performance is 20 percent faster than our previous version," said Billy Bosworth, CEO of DataStax. "That improvement is important because we are seeing time and time again that the new standard for transactional applications requires an architecture capable of handling mixed workloads that can span multiple datacenters and/or the cloud, without increasing operational complexity or sacrificing performance."
The DSE platform is built on Cassandra, and is the industry's first complete big data solution designed to manage OLTP, analytic, and enterprise search data, all in the same database cluster. Apache Cassandra™ is an open-source NoSQL distributed database for managing big data workloads across multiple data centers with no single point of failure, providing enterprises with continuous availability and performance without compromise.
DSE 2.1 now sports increased capabilities to run Hadoop operations across multiple data centers. This includes the ability to run multiple job trackers across multiple data centers and create multiple Cassandra File System (CFS) key spaces per data center, which keeps Hadoop metadata local to each data center for faster performance.
DSE 2.1 also offers full Mahout support for those wishing to include machine learning and data mining capabilities in their analytic applications. Users will also find support for Oracle Unbreakable Linux.
Customers using DataStax OpsCenter will have additional administration functionality to perform various reporting functions, and manage/view the data in large Cassandra objects.
DataStax offers products and services based on the popular open-source database, Apache Cassandra™, which solve today's most challenging big data problems. DataStax Enterprise combines the performance of Cassandra with analytics powered by Apache Hadoop and enterprise search with Apache Solr, creating a smartly integrated, big data platform. With DataStax Enterprise, OLTP, analytic, and search workloads never conflict, giving you maximum performance with the added benefit of only managing a single database.
