Decision Sciences Awarded National Security Technologies (NSTec) Contract for Scanner System to Conduct Applied Research on Nuclear Detection Technology
CHANTILLY, Va., Jan. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Decision Sciences International, an advanced technology provider of security and detection systems, today announced it has been awarded a contract by National Security Technologies (NSTec) for a muon tomography scanner system. NSTec will use the system to conduct research on new scanning and imaging applications incorporating muon tomography.
Muon tomography uses naturally occurring cosmic ray muons to safely and securely detect and image high density material.
NSTec manages operations at the Nevada National Security Site and related facilities and laboratories for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the Nevada Site Office.
"We're pleased to have this new opportunity to once again work with NSTec in furtherance of their research objectives," said Decision Sciences President and CEO Dr. Stanton D. Sloane .
NSTec works closely with the NNSA defense program laboratories in verification and nonproliferation research and development that promote specialized training of national scientific experts and testing new technologies to detect weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and to mitigate and manage the consequences posed by WMDs once they are detected.
