Defra Resource Minister to Deliver Keynote Address
LONDON, February 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Resource, the world's first event for the circular economy, is pleased to announce that Dan Rogerson, Parliamentary Undersecretary of State, Resource, DEFRA will deliver the event's opening keynote speech on 4th March 2014 at ExCeL London.
The Minister will discuss his belief that it is now the responsibility of UK businesses to progress the transition to a more resource efficient environment. His address follows a recent letter to the UK waste and recycling sector informing them of Defra's intention to reduce activities in this sector. It is expected he will also cover how subsidies will help kick-start repair and reuse and the aims and results of the Technology Strategy Board's circular economy project.
Commenting on the announcement David Palmer-Jones, Chief Executive Officer of SITA UK and ESA Chairman said: "The government still has an important role in helping the waste industry to deliver the steps necessary for the circular economy to become a reality so we welcome the involvement of the Minister in this groundbreaking event."
The Resource conference programme, which will deliver both strategic advice for senior business professionals and practical advice for companies looking to take first steps has been further bolstered by the addition of Jamie Butterworth, CEO, Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Jamie will join senior figures from Coca Cola Enterprises, the British Retail Consortium, SITA UK and McKinsey & Company to debate the opportunity that a truly circular economy presents for the retail and manufacturing sectors, and what can be done to accelerate its development.
