Dem. Congressional Campaign Chair Steve Israel To Update State Of Play In 2014 Congress Races At National Press Club Newsmaker 10AM Wed. April 2
NATIONAL PRESS CLUB, WASHINGTON, DC, ZENGER ROOM
WASHINGTON, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A National Press Club Newsmaker in a continuing series on the 2014 elections will provide a congressional campaign update, with Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) discussing the Democratic case in the 2014 midterm elections, including the state of play, as well as key campaign issues, messages, and priorities. Israel will give an opening presentation on the status and issues in the race, where all 435 members of the House of Representatives are up for election or re-election including 233 Republicans, 199 Democrats, 0 Independents, and 3 Vacancies. Democrats would need to win 17 additional seats to regain the House. Media is invited, and following the opening presentation may ask questions.
The event is at 10AM Wednesday, April 2, at the National Press Club, 14th and F streets NW, 13th floor, in the Zenger Room. Israel will address the Democrats' approach to the midterm and will answer the question of why there has been a difference in Democrats' winning Presidential elections versus congressional midterm races, including how the Party will combat midterm dropoff and what he says is "the core issue of the cycle: Who is on the voters' side?"
Israel represents New York's 3rd Congressional District, including the North Shore Long Island communities of Huntington, Oyster Bay, North Hempstead, as well as a portion of northeastern Queens. Now in his seventh term, he was first elected to Congress in 2000. Israel is a member of the House leadership and serves as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Former President Bill Clinton called Congressman Israel "one of the most thoughtful people in the House of Representatives."
Israel had been scheduled to address the Club the week before the 2012 midterms, but Hurricane Sandy, centered in his district, caused the event to be canceled.
